Physiotherapy

I work holistically to combine physiotherapy with other intuitive bodywork and therapies to help realign, stabilise, strengthen and release where it is needed.

I’m a chartered physiotherapist with a strong background in physiotherapy. I work (w)holisticly and take the whole of you into account when I treat you. This brings about change on many levels and works more deeply and thoroughly.

My keen awareness and particular interest in the alignment and balance of the body, and how effectively and easily the body moves, allows me to identify problem areas quickly and to work with you to bring you back into balance. Releasing old patterns that can be held in the physical body and mind can produce excellent results very quickly when integrated in this way. I’m a trauma-informed therapist with the possibility of delinking past traumatic or adverse events that can contribute to pain, patterns and blocks; and reframing and rewiring to allow even greater ease and integration with Havening Techniques®. The use of yoga principles and practices enhances effective exercise programmes with an emphasis on posture, ease of alignment, core stability and natural, relaxed breathing patterns.

Advice, education and exercise prescriptions are readily available alongside assessment and massage for those needing this input into a specific problem. My emphasis is to tackle problems at their source and empower you, whenever possible, to prevent or treat the problem yourself, with guidance.

  • “I was recommended Jo when suffering with tightness in the shoulders and upper back. I had a spinal fusion in my lower back a few years ago after a long period of back issues. I swim regularly but remained very protective about the lower back avoiding any exercise I thought might set off a bad spell. Jo's approach bringing together both her knowledge of physiotherapy and massage made a quick improvement on the upper back and shoulder stiffness. Combined with a range of exercises not only did she provide relief from the symptoms but I soon learnt how to maintain the improvements on my own."

  • “I cannot recommend Jo highly enough.  I have been under Jo’s hands for about four years now, and she has managed to fix, and keep fixed, all sorts of muscular niggles and problems I have, ranging from overenthusiastic sporting injury to the built-up back problems caused by excessive use of a computer keyboard and mouse. Being an NHS trained physiotherapist, her knowledge of human anatomy is excellent. This, combined with her holistic approach to life and healing, and her powerful ‘Magic fingers’ and x-ray vision (my guess) – means that she can find all those little bits of muscle tension hiding under your shoulder blades, (or anywhere else for that matter) and root them out, leaving you exquisitely relaxed. Do make an appointment or three to see Jo. You will not regret it.”

  • "I had an expectation that things would go well at the start and then would reach a ceiling where the back issues stop me continuing. But that was not the case. I had avoided core strength and didn't know where to start. We started very gently and over several months of practising on my own at home and Jo reviewing monthly to correct any bad habits. I gained confidence over this time and started to feel the benefits. The exercises are simple and repetitive but don't underestimate their effectiveness. I have learnt not to let my enthusiasm get the better of me, which took us a step back, and to not judge the improvement from week to week but to keep going and see everything build. Very gradually Jo started to introduce new exercises as I feel more confident and I trust Jo's judgement. We have been working together for over 12 months and I now feel so much stronger in the core and lower back. It is going fantascially well and I even went skiing for a week with no back brace which is a major step for me. I am really enjoying the process and look forward to continually gaining the benefits and strength over the coming months.  am sure there is plenty of improvement yet to come.”

  • “Having had standard physiotherapy treatment, several trips to the GP and chiropractor, I arrived to see Jo with a diagnosis of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and had been experiencing high levels of pain for months. After truly listening, Jo massaged and we talked about acceptance, and how I was holding myself. We also talked about the nature, sensation and colours of my pain. The physical massage was unlike anything the physio had done previously, the only way I can describe it is that Jo is intuitive, and really hears the individual whilst being guided by her practical and physiotherapy experience. There was immediate relief, and after a length of time, one or two more visits stopped my symptoms completely. I have not experienced such pain again thankfully... Jo will furnish you with exercise and practice to do yourself, and so you leave feeling hopeful and empowered. When thinking financially, Jo's gentle nature also shines through as she will never push or suggest a series of appointments, she will leave you to decide what you need and when you need it, again this gives a sense of empowerment at a time when you are more likely to be feeling vulnerable. I cannot recommend Jo highly enough.  A true healer, acting with complete integrity.”

  • “Jo's deep knowledge of the science of the body, ranging through topics as varied as integrated anatomy, epigenetics, embryology and neuroscience is combined with an intuitive understanding of the art of touch; allowing access to deeper and often previously unexplored realms of experience... often through revealing pain you didn't even know was there… and then allowing you space to come out the other side refreshed and regenerated… a bit wiser and filled with a sense of gratitude as to the mystery of being a living, lovely energetic soft body.”
